About Maureen
Based in Kumara, between Greymouth and Hokitika, Maureen Pugh was National’s candidate for the West Coast – Tasman electorate in the 2014 general election and is now a National List MP.
Maureen was first elected to the Westland District Council in 1998, serving two terms before becoming the first woman elected as mayor on the West Coast. She served in that role for 9 years before standing down at the 2013 local body elections.
A born and bred ‘Coaster’ with a family history on the Coast going back over 150 years, Maureen is highly committed to helping the West Coast, Tasman, and all our regions to realise their full potential.
She is also an advocate for responsibly managing our environment, policies which grow our economy and create jobs, helping our kids get the best possible education, and ensuring that all New Zealander’s can enjoy a world class health system.
Maureen and her husband John are parents to three adult children and grandparents of six.
