National’s West Coast-Tasman based List MP Maureen Pugh welcomes news that the government will fund $199,500 towards new restroom facilities at Springs Junction.
The funding decision was made due to an increase in re-routed traffic following the Kaikōura earthquake, according to acting Tourism Minister, Paula Bennett.
“This is comforting news to the Buller District which is feeling the pressures due to the increased traffic flow post-earthquake, particular through Springs Junction, St Arnaud and Murchison,” says Mrs Pugh.
“I am working closely with both the Buller and Tasman District Councils to ensure they get the best advantage from the support available through central government in order to cope with the increasing pressures and to develop a quick and tangible response”
This section of road will continue to experience increased traffic flow for several months, as repairs to State Highway 1 between Picton and Christchurch continue.
